Patient's guide

In the Patient's guide, we have collected answers to frequently asked questions from various fields of dentistry.

They will help dispel both general doubts and those regarding a specific procedure.

Endodontics – root canal treatment

Medicine is a constantly evolving field, and gives dentists many methods to eliminate and relieve pain. There are several techniques of administering anaesthesia: infiltration anaesthesia, local anaesthesia, intraligamentary anaesthesia, and intrapulpal anaesthesia. We do our best to make every procedure performed at Centrum Estetique painless, but despite our efforts, the effects of anaesthesia may sometimes be weakened due to inflammation or hypersensitivity.

The duration of endodontic treatment depends on many factors.

  • On the anatomy of the teeth, as there are multi-canal as well as single-canal teeth. The greater the number of canals, the longer the duration of treatment.
  • On the Patient’s endurance. An endodontic visit lasts from 1.5 to 3 hours.

At Centrum Estetique, endodontic treatment is performed using the Carl Zeiss microscope. Precision and accuracy of work is our priority.

A cofferdam is a rubber that covers the treatment area. It is helpful not only during endodontic treatment but also in prosthodontics or conservative dentistry. During the procedure, it is very important to protect the dry treatment area.

An alternative to endodontic treatment is tooth extraction or prosthetic treatment (implant, bridge). The greatest benefit of root canal treatment is preserving natural full dentition, as missing teeth cause serious changes in the entire oral cavity.

Implants

An implant is a modern, durable and safe reconstruction of a lost tooth. It is nothing more than a titanium “screw” with a precise shape, which, when inserted into the bone, replaces the lost tooth root, while becoming the foundation for crowns and bridges. Implants can be also used to stabilise removable dentures. At Centrum Estetique, we place implants of the highest quality.

The dental implant procedure consists of three basic stages:

  • placing an implant,
  • inserting a healing screw,
  • attaching a crown.

This depends, among others, on the condition of the maxilla and mandible bones. At Centrum Estetique, during treatment planning, the Patient is referred for appropriate tests, including computed tomography, to check bone structure in terms of the implantation procedure. If there is not enough healthy bone, implant placement will be combined with a bone regeneration surgery.

Implant placement is often a less advanced procedure than tooth removal, so it is performed under local anesthesia. Additionally, before the procedure, the Patient receives an antibiotic to reduce discomfort after the surgery.

Reconstruction of the tooth crown takes at least 12 weeks from the date of implantation. During the healing of the implant, it is possible to use the so-called temporary crowns.

Before the crown is made in the dental laboratory, its colour is individually matched to the shade of the Patient’s teeth. Therefore, it is not possible for the implant to be visible.

Food and drink should be avoided for at least two hours after the surgery, as the postoperative wound is an ideal environment for bacteria to accumulate.

Implants are completely safe. We only use premium class implants, which increase positive effects of treatment by up to 98%. They are equivalent to natural teeth and will be with you as long as you care for them, which is why we recommend regular checkups at Centrum Estetique.

Implantology is a separate field of dentistry, so it is important that the dentist performing the implantation procedure has the appropriate qualifications and experience.

Yes, but it depends on individual anatomical conditions. Implantologists recommend waiting 7-10 weeks for the bone tissue to regenerate and the gums to heal.

If the treatment has been properly performed, the durability of the implants depends on the Patient. Proper oral hygiene and regular checkups ensure implant durability.

Prevention

If you want to have a healthy and beautiful smile, you should follow a few rules of oral hygiene. First of all, remember that dental prevention is cheaper and much more pleasant than dental treatment, also in the case of diseases in the oral cavity. The basic rules of oral hygiene include:

  • regular checkups and oral hygiene visits (at least every 6 months),
  • brushing your teeth at least twice a day – in the morning and in the evening (approx. 2-3 min.); after consuming acidic foods, it is recommended to wait 30 minutes until the pH value is stabilised,
  • brushing your teeth despite bleeding gums (if bleeding continues, contact your dentist),
  • taking care of the proper cleaning of interdental spaces with the use of dental floss, irrigators or interdental brushes,
  • cleaning the tongue from deposits using a special tongue cleaner,
  • rinsing the mouth to support the oral hygiene,
  • chewing sugar-free gum between meals.

For adults, dental checkups are recommended every six months. However, parents should bring their children for checkups at least once every 3 months. During such visits, the dentist will examine the condition of the teeth, gums and oral mucosa. The dentist will also check the teeth for tartar and plaque build-up and remind you how to properly care for the oral hygiene. Regular checkups not only save time and money but also help avoid unpleasant procedures and pain. Checkups at our Centre are free and, most importantly, painless.

Dental hygiene treatment is recommended at least every 6-12 months.

Prosthodontics

Prosthodontics is a field of dentistry dealing with the replacement of missing teeth. The goal of prosthodontics is to restore the Patient’s full dentition and an aesthetic smile, as well as the proper functioning of dental organs.

Veneers are thin, porcelain flakes that are permanently attached to the Patient’s teeth (usually the front ones). They are an innovative and safe method of correcting the shape or colour of teeth while maintaining the natural dentition. Veneers are made in professional prosthetic laboratories. They can quickly change the aesthetics of the Patient’s smile.

A prosthodontic consultation involves a clinical examination, as well as taking a panoramic or CT scan, an intraoral scan and a set of specialist images. They are used to prepare an individual treatment plan for each Patient. Before the prosthetic consultation, the Patient is obliged to complete the Kois medical history questionnaire upon registration. During the prosthodontic consultation, the dentist presents solutions tailored to the needs and capabilities of the Patient, shows the prepared prosthetic works, and schedules further treatment.

Kois questionnaire is a survey on the diagnosis of occlusion prior to the planned prosthetic treatment. The dentist would like to know the prosthetic needs and the medical condition of the Patient.

First visit

The first visit to the dentist should take place when the child is about 2 years old. However, it is worth planning the first visit before any dental procedure is actually needed. This checkup is very important as the dentist will see if all teeth have developed properly, examine the bite, and check the teeth for the signs of caries. The first visit to the dentist will stay in the child’s memory for a long time, so it is worth making sure that the meeting with the dentist is not a problem beforehand.

Yes, there is no reason you should not. Moreover, Patients waiting for visits at our Estetique Centre can count on cold and hot drinks and everything they need to refresh the mouth.

Teeth whitening

Yes, teeth whitening is really safe and effective. There are many methods of teeth whitening but only medical whitening can be considered effective and safe, because it is performed under the supervision of a dentist or dental hygienist.

Daily oral hygiene prevents cavities but has no effect on the colour of the teeth, regardless of the toothbrush used.

At Centrum Estetique, we offer Patients 3 teeth whitening methods: overlay whitening, in-office whitening and overlay whitening combining in-office and at-home treatment. If the Patient wants to get whiter teeth fast, in-office whitening will be the best method. However, if the Patient has more time, we recommend the overlay method or the combined method (in-office and at-home).

In-office whitening consists of 1 visit, which lasts approx. 120 min.

Overlay whitening consists of two visits:

  • 1st visit – taking impressions or a scan for overlays and in-office whitening
  • 2nd visit – providing the whitening overlays and whitening instructions

Combined whitening (in-office and at-home) consists of two visits:

  • 1st visit – taking impressions for overlays and irradiation
  • 2nd visit – providing the whitening overlays and whitening instructions

Whitening toothpaste helps clean the plaque of deposits but cannot change the colour of the enamel. By whitening the teeth, you can obtain a colour that is a few shades lighter than the natural colour of your teeth. It is impossible to achieve this effect even with the use of the strongest whitening toothpastes, which, if used permanently, may have a negative impact on the condition of the teeth.
